New York, NY – On Tuesday morning, November 14, from 8:30 – 10 AM, Parent-Child Home Program & Public Prep are pleased to invite media to the first convening of THE SCHOOL READINESS FORUM, an event series hosted by the Parent-Child Home Program to raise awareness about the most effective and scalable ways to close the achievement gap – with a focus on early childhood solutions, including home visiting.
“Recent breakthroughs in neuroscience reveal that children’s brains are growing explosively during the first years of life – developing more than 1000 trillion synaptic connections before they ever step foot in a classroom. This growth sets the stage for all complex learning, including language development, problem solving and the ability to sustain meaningful relationships. Missing this small but vital window of opportunity leads to intense efforts later in our schools to try and support students who are struggling. Most of the achievement gap between rich and poor children is already evident by kindergarten, and it stubbornly persists as students enter and complete middle and high school.” ~ Shael Polakow-Suransky
WHAT: The first convening of The School Readiness Forum, featuring insights from the field and an exploration of new ideas to prevent the achievement gap, including how a charter school network in the Bronx is attempting to address this challenge with a first-of-its-kind partnership to engage families when their children are as young as 18 months old.
