Stephen Cockrell
Stephen Cockrell joined ParentChild+ as Chief Executive Officer on September 15, 2025. He formerly served as CEO of the Fund for New York City Public Schools and as a member of the Chancellor’s cabinet, where he raised more than $130 million during his tenure to support citywide priorities like NYC Reads, NYC Solves, Summer Rising and FutureReadyNYC.
Stephen’s experience reflects a career spent at the intersection of education, equity and partnership. He previously served as CEO of The 74 Media, where he expanded the organization into new markets and elevated diverse perspectives in education journalism. At KIPP Foundation, he launched the Alumni Leadership Accelerator, designed to place 1,000 KIPP alumni into leadership roles nationally by 2040. Earlier roles include Education Director at the Woodlawn Foundation in Birmingham, AL, Operations Counsel for the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools and a stint as a civil rights attorney.
Stephen is the father of two daughters – ages two and four. Stephen is married to an educator and is the grandson of a home-based childcare provider. Stephen received his bachelor’s degree from Yale and his law degree from Columbia University.
