A Day At The Zoo
Visiting a zoo is a great activity that can be enjoyed year round, there are always interesting animals to see. Reading about the zoo is a wonderful way to bring the zoo and the diverse array of animals there into your home.
Here are some great books about the zoo and the animals that live there. While reading these books, talk with your child, ask them which animals they like or don’t like, and why. Ask them which animals they have seen before and where (maybe in another book)? Practice the sounds that different animals might make with your child.
Elephant Art
You Will Need:
- One paper plate
- Scissors
- Glue
- White paper
- Black marker or crayon
- Paint (any colors your child would like)
- Sponge
Directions:
- Have your child sponge paint the plate any color they’d like. Talk with them about what color elephants usually are and why they chose the color they used.
- After the paint dries, cut two parallel sides of the plate. Save the pieces because you will need one later. See the picture above for an example.
- Trim one of the pieces you cut off and glue it onto the center of the face so that part of it hangs off. This will be the elephant’s trunk.
- Using the white paper, trace and cut out two eyes for the elephant and glue them on either side of the trunk.
- Use the black marker/crayon to color the eyes. You can also add eyelashes, eyebrows, or anything else your child wants to make the elephant their own.
