Back to School
As summer break has come to an end, parents and children are thinking about the new school year, and getting ready for back to school! Whether your child is starting school for the first time, or returning for another year, it can be an exciting and scary time for children. Here are some tips and activities to help make the transition from summer to school easier for both parents and children!
Create a Time Capsule
Now that the school year has started, you and your child can create a time capsule. Here, you can find some printables of things that you can put in your time capsule, or you can create your own!
You Will Need:
- A box, bag, or container to keep everything in
- Markers, pencils, or crayons
- Paper
What To Put Inside:
- Have your child trace their hand
- Have your child draw a picture of themselves
- A fact sheet of the teacher, grade, and school your child is starting
- With your child, create a list of their favorite things (colors, music, food, etc.)
- A page about what your child wants to be when they grow up
- A “goals” list of what you and your child hope to learn and experience during the next school year
- A current family photo
- Anything else you think you and your child will enjoy looking back on next year!
Directions:
- Find a box or container to place all of the material inside.
- Using some of the ideas above, create your very own personal time capsule and put it inside the container.
- Seal off the container and hide it somewhere in the house.
- Once the school year has come to an end, sit down with your child and re-open it. Now you both can see how much has changed over the past year!
