Black & African American Representation
February 3, 2021
In honor of Black History Month, we invited children’s book authors, and Diversity & Inclusion experts for a compelling, nationally relevant discussion on the representations of African American and Black characters in children’s literature. The first in ParentChild+’s virtual event series on representation in children’s literature, Windows, Mirrors, & Doors shined a light on the impact it has on the well-being and social-emotional development of children, the importance for children and families of experiencing books by Black and African American authors, and the ways in which representation and book selection can be a powerful step toward building a stronger, more equitable world.
