Resolution Wreath
This art activity is fun for children of all ages. If your children do not know what a resolution is, explain to them that it is their plan for the good things they want to do in the coming year. Not only is this a great conversation topic, but it will give you wonderful insights into what your children are thinking about. Make your own resolution to have even more conversations with your children this year than last year!
You will need:
- Various colors of construction paper
- Materials to decorate the cut-out hands (color pencils, crayons, stickers, etc.)
- Scissors
- Glue/tape
Directions:
- Cut a white circle and write on it “My resolutions by … (child’s name), or have your child write this.
- Trace and cut-out one of your child’s hands 7 times, each on a different color of construction paper (you can do an alternating pattern of two or three colors if you don’t have seven different ones).
- Have your child decorate the cut-out hands with pencils, crayons, stickers, glitter, etc.
- Write your child’s resolutions in the center of each hand.
- Glue/tape each of the hands thumb to pinky (overlapping each other) in a circle
- Attach the white circle to the middle of the wreath.
- If you want to display this for everyone to see; you can punch a hole in one of the fingers and string ribbon or yarn through the hole.
This wreath will have captured this very special moment in time in your child’s life by exploring what he/she considers important right now. Re-visit this wreath during the year to talk about the resolutions and whether they are still important to your child.
