A Farewell Full of Thanks

In early September 1997, I began working at ParentChild+. For 6 months I had the privilege of sharing a basement office with the amazing Dr. Phyllis Levenstein, who 32 years prior had first piloted the unique ParentChild+ model of home visiting.

In early 1998, ParentChild+ moved out of Phyllis’s basement and into its own office (bringing with us 10 file cabinets full of data and ParentChild+ history as well as toys used in the program in the 1960s and 70s, which still decorate our office today). Almost 28 years and five offices later, with a brilliant, dedicated National Center team that has grown from 1.25 people to 25 and supports a network of over 140 local sites in 5 countries staffed by over 800 incredible home visiting staff, it is time for me to depart.

I do so knowing that ParentChild+’s commitment to equal possibilities from the start for all children is in the best hands, supported by dedicated Board members, staff, supporters, local partner sites, and, most importantly, decades of families and caregivers who are the program’s biggest champions. I know the organization will continue to be shaped by the hopes and dreams of the families with whom it works, by the communities in which it works, and the local staff who advocate for and are committed to this work every day.

As I move on to my next work, outside ParentChild+ but still inside the early childhood world, I look forward to watching and supporting the critically important work ParentChild+ will continue to do and all the ways in which it will continue to innovate and grow.

Thank you all so much for the support you have provided me over these many years and for your commitment to ParentChild+’s mission to ensure that all our children are able to enter school ready to thrive.

If ParentChild+ has touched your heart as it has mine, I hope you’ll consider honoring this next chapter by supporting the Infinite Possibilities campaign and investing in the future we’ve all been working toward, one home visit at a time.

It has been an honor and a joy to work alongside you.

With Gratitude,

Sarah E. Walzer

Former CEO, ParentChild+
