Massachusetts Department of Early Education And Care Awards An Increase of $300,000 In Funding To Expand ParentChild+

Press Release, 1/19

MASSACHUSETTS January 2019 – The Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP), a leading early childhood, school readiness organization working in 14 states nationwide and five other countries, is proud to announce that the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) has awarded an additional $300,000 in state funds to increase the capacity of PCHP across the Commonwealth. PCHP sites that have received expansion grants are: Lawrence, Great Barrington, Leominster, Worcester, Fitchburg, Lowell, Lynn, Somerville, Marlborough, Brockton, Fall River, and New Bedford. Over 100 families across Massachusetts, including approximately 200-500 parents, program children, and siblings, will be added to the 1,000 families currently receiving this home-based school readiness and family support program with funding from the state.

We are incredibly grateful to our legislative supporters and champions who worked to increase state funding for PCHP through line item 3000-7050, so that many of the families currently on waiting lists can be enrolled. Specifically, we are thankful for the leadership of: Representative Tony Cabral from New Bedford, Representative Alice Peisch from Wellesley, Representative Aaron Vega from Holyoke, Representative Paul Tucker from Salem, Representative Marjorie Decker from Cambridge, Representative Kay Khan from Newton, Senate President Karen Spilka, Majority Leader Cynthia Creem from Newton, Senator Adam Hinds from Pittsfield, and Senator Joan Lovely from Salem.

About Parent-Child Home Program

The Parent-Child Home Program uses education to break the cycle of poverty for under-resourced parents and their young children. Through an international network of program sites, PCHP works one-on-one with parents to ensure their children achieve their greatest potential in school and in life. Highly trained Early Learning Specialists engage families by modeling reading, conversation, and play activities designed to support vulnerable children and their parents. Through twice weekly home visits, PCHP provides families the skills, materials, and support to help parents prepare their children to enter classrooms ready to be successful. Since 1965, PCHP has been assisting underserved communities in replicating and expanding this proven program, setting children on the road to school and life success and strengthening families and communities.
