HUD Secretary Julian Castro Reads with PCHP Children!
In April 2016, Julian Castro, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, visited Tampa, Florida to celebrate the city as one of 25 model communities across the country in which the local housing authority is partnering with the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading to ensure that children residing in public housing are performing on grade level by third grade.
The Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP), one of the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading’s Bright Spot partners, is proud to be part of this wonderful initiative in Tampa.
Children living in Tampa Housing Authority buildings have access to an array of literacy programs, including home visiting, homework help, summer camps, and supports for their parents.
As part of this Campaign for Grade-Level Reading initiative launch, Secretary Castro met with Parent-Child Home Program participants at the Tampa Housing Authority’s BRIDGES PCHP site. During his visit, Secretary Castro had a great time reading with PCHP children, who proudly demonstrated their love of books and reading!
We thank Secretary Castro for his support for PCHP and for sharing story time with
Program participants!
