Parent-Child Home Program Receives Fourth Consecutive 4-Star Rating from Nation’s Premier Charity Evaluator

Designation indicates “exceptional fiscal responsibility and governance”

Garden City, NY, August 4, 2013 – Garden City based national nonprofit, the Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP), received Charity Navigator’s coveted 4-star rating for the fourth year in a row. The 4-star rating, Charity Navigator’s highest, is given to nonprofits that practice exceptional fiscal responsibility, accountability, and transparency in fulfilling their mission, and serves to highlight the fine work of efficient, ethical, and effective charities.

“Only 7% of the charities we rate have received at least 4 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that The Parent-Child Home Program outperforms most other charities in America. This “exceptional” designation from Charity Navigator differentiates The Parent-Child Home Program from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust,” said Charity Navigator’s President and CEO Ken Berger.
Charity Navigator works to help donors make intelligent giving decisions by providing information on more than five thousand charities nationwide and by evaluating their financial health. It calculates each charity’s score based upon several broad criteria, including how much is spent per dollar fundraised, what percentage of funds goes to programs vs. administrative and fund-raising expenses, and the organization’s long-term financial health.
“We are so proud to have received a 4 star rating for the fourth year in a row,” said PCHP’s CEO, Sarah Walzer. “PCHP is so appreciative of the generous support we receive, and as we continue to expand our Program nationally, we remain committed to using our financial resources wisely. Through the trust and support of our donors, which is validated by this wonderful Charity Navigator 4-star designation, we can continue to grow our network of sites across the country and pursue our goal of ensuring that every child enters school ready to succeed.”
The Parent-Child Home Program has been providing early literacy, parenting, school readiness programming to low-income families since 1965. Over four decades of research proves that children who participate in PCHP between the ages of two and four enter school performing 10 months above their chronological age, are 50% less likely to need special education services by third grade, and are over 30% more likely to graduate from high school than their non-Program peers.
