Press Release, 9/18 Philadelphia Parent-Child Home Program Celebrates First Graduating Class in North Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA September 2018 – The Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP), a leading school readiness organization focused on eliminating the achievement gap by ensuring that all parents have access to the knowledge, skills, and materials they need to build their children’s school readiness, is thrilled to announce the first graduation ceremony in North Philadelphia.
The graduation will take place on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. The celebration will be held at Smith Memorial Playground, located at 3500 Reservoir Drive, Philadelphia, PA 19121. Forty-one children will be graduating, marking their completion of a successful two years of receiving PCHP in their homes.
This cohort of families is PCHP’s first graduating class in North Philadelphia. In partnership with the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA), PCHP worked with 50 families over the last two years. In 2016, GreenLight Fund Philadelphia selected PCHP as its portfolio organization. With GreenLight’s investment, PCHP was able to launch a four-year expansion plan of working with 400 families a year by 2020. GreenLight’s support also allowed PCHP to attract additional funding from Vanguard’s Strong Start for Kids, The William Penn Foundation, The Philadelphia Foundation and the S Albert Fund.
PCHP is proud to be working with a total of 100 families in North Philadelphia and plans to work with PHA to identify other communities to work in over the next two years.

The Parent-Child Home Program’s (PCHP) international network of program sites provides under-resourced families with the necessary tools to ensure their children achieve their greatest potential in school and in life. Since 1965, PCHP has been assisting underserved communities in replicating and expanding this proven school readiness program that builds early parent-child verbal interaction and learning at home.
